CV File Name
The first thing that a hiring manager/recruiter notices when you send your CV is not the CV’s content, but the File Name. So, would you like that first impression to be a good one, or not?
Examples of an inappropriate file names for a CV that do not create a good first impression are:
- CV Final Version
- Edited CV
- CV v 3.2
- CV Copy 2
- Black and White Corporate Resume (Canva Template name)
Why these are a bad choice:
- Messy version tracking: Words like v3, FINAL, edited, and copy(2) signal that your organisation is chaotic and that this was a rushed, last-minute upload.
- Missing critical information: It does not include your full name, making it difficult for a hiring manager/recruiter to search for or find your file once it is downloaded into their system.
How to fix it:
Always keep your CV file name clean, professional, and searchable. A great standard format is:
Firstname_Lastname_CV.pdf (e.g., Alex_Smith_CV.pdf)
